Stubs
After much debate, I decided to make this post. I feel horrible, but I feel our story must be told.
Meet Stubs-

Stubs is now a happy baby, fully mobile and smiley with the use of one hand. What happened to the other hand you ask? I tried to cut Penny’s fingernails. It was all going well, until she moved. Then Penny became Stubs. (I cut the tip of her thumb).

Thankfully my background in nursing really helped (helped me go running over to Sara’s asking what should I do????). Penny was a trooper though. She only cried for a brief moment, then stared at Sara, Marcus and I as we looked at her thumb and put a bandage on it. To prevent her from getting at it I put a sock over her hand and found a long sleeved onesie that had mitts on the end of the sleeves. Folded said mitt over the sock, and voila. STUBS!!!!!

All joking aside, Penny is fine and it is only a small cut that bled just a little. I feel absolutely horrible and slightly nauseous but Penny doesn’t even seem fazed by it. I know that I’m not the first mother to have snipped her child’s thumb while cutting the nails and that worse things are bound to happen to Penny throughout her life, and that she won’t remember this at all, but jeez. It sucks!!!
Don’t fret, it happens too all of us…Penelope looks fine. We almost pulled Ella’s arm off, she needed x-rays.
You’ll be hearing from our attorney! Maiming our granddaughter is just not going to be permitted. The Vice Chair of the Lewiston bar, Karin Seubert, will get right on this! I forget which bar in Lewiston, but she’s the vice chair and will get on it anyways!
Now you’re FULLY initiated into the Parent Club.
I stubbed Ty when he was a week old- Jennie? Poor baby didn’t even get out of the hospital and I had clipped the tip of her finger.
They get over it a whole lot faster than we do!
That’s better than having the nose cut off, huh Steve, but I would get that Karin Seubert before morning.
Yeah, at least your incident didn’t involve any hospital visits. It’s all part of the parent-guilt thing, it doesn’t end there. Penny will be just fine.
Steve was barely two months old when his grandmother and I let him fall off the chnging table in a moment of inattention. Then, as Grandpa pointed out, there was that whole nose thing. Welcome to the “I will always carry the guilt” mother’s club.
And to believe I felt really bad when she scratched her face with her own nails when I was watching her. I guess you will have to go to manicure class 101. Is there surch a thing. I am sure Penelope forgives you. Just forgive yourself.
Too funny – now that we know she’s ok. A great story to look back on. Maybe the first incident, but certainly not the last ; )
You all survived…Penny still smiling as cute as ever!!! It’s something you’ll only do once. I snipped Madelyn’s thumb when she cam home as a newborn. I felt horrible too! When Ericka was about three years of age she moved while I was trimming her bangs. Needless to say snip right into her forehead…OUCH! We all do things like that. Welcome to the wonderful years of being a Mommy!
Hmmm… looks like my million dollar lawsuit has arrived!
Penny, you look pretty darn happy playing with that bandage. If I’m remembering right, your mommy and I used to practically enjoy boo-boos since we got pretty rainbow brite band-aids. I’ll have to send you some.
