Happy 4 week birthday Sweet Pea!!!

Unlike past visits with my parents, this visit we’ve been sticking pretty close to home.  Friday we went up into the valley for the first time since having Penelope and spent the day in Pisco Elqui.  We are happy to say that the juice bar is reopened, and the juice is just as good as we remembered.

We spent the weekend visiting friends for wonderful meals, unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures, though  Penelope was a hit of course.  She basically slept the whole time.

In the almost 3 weeks since my parents have been here, we’ve noticed many changes in Penelope.  She is now starting to focus more on objects.  She especially likes her peacock on her carseat.

She’s also starting to make more faces and have more of a personality.

She’s also growing and filling out her clothes more.

She still loves her chupete though!!

Penelope hearts La Serena

The Chilean newspaper La Tercera recently did a study and concluded that La Serena was the best city in Chile for raising children.  They cited our good education quality, low contamination, and wonderful beaches, among other things, in taking La Serena to the top.  We tend to think La Serena is a great place, and it is nice to have some confirmation.  Read more about the study in this article in The Santiago Times.

Penelope was so happy for La Serena, that she wanted to spell out the city name.

The ‘L’ came out pretty well, but things started falling apart with the ‘A’.  Can’t be too disappointed for a three week old.

In fact, the whole attempt pretty much tired her completely out.  Good thing there is always a mommy to snuggle on.

Shopping, Reading, and Being Cute!

Penelope has been busy and getting out more and more.  She’s been to La Faria (the Farmer’s Market) a couple times this week.

Penelope has also become a fan of the JUMBO.  Good thing since we seem to go to the grocery store every day,

The Margheims are big readers and we are already starting to instill a love of books in Penelope.  Here’s Grams reading to a rapt baby.

Grandpa and Grams have been an amazing help, but they’ve still managed to find a moment or two to relax.

Leyna is starting to warm up to Penelope.  She’ll even cuddle with Penelope and her Mom without being held down.

Super Holiday Happy Time

Penelope has really been enjoying having her grandparents around, maybe even more than Lisa and I.  We all enjoyed watching the All-Star game on Tuesday night.  The Foley’s have been getting Penelope into baseball already.

Go Yankees!

(Go Yankees!)

As you may have heard, the game was a long one and Penelope had a bit of trouble staying up.
Did I mention it was a really, really long game? 15 innings!

Like father, like daughter.

(Like father, like daughter.)

Wednesday was a holiday here in Chile, Dia del Virgen de Carmen.  So after sleeping in, we had a big day together.  Grams and Steve took Leyna to the park in the morning.  Then Lisa and Steve gave Penelope a bath.
Then, the six of us went to the beach.  Penelope really enjoyed her first trip to the beach, all snuggled in with Dad. Â
